Apply oil for the Overdrive servo on AX type transmissions comes up through the servo pin bore and through the hollow pin to the back of the piston. This requires the pin to seal in the servo pin bore to apply the servo and achieve fourth gear As time goes by and the servo goes through many apply and release cycles, the case wears and the pin no longer seals. This wear causes apply oil to leak, dumping pressure. With this loss of pressure, the servo lacks adequate pressure to hold the band completely applied, burning the band.
Note the ridge worn in the pin bore.

The AX-OD kit contains tooling necessary to repair the Overdrive servo pin bore. We save your case by reaming out the case and installing a brass bushing that has proven to wear considerably better than the stock aluminum case. The AX-OD is a BLACK series kit, and is available as either a Master (pictured) or a Sub kit.
